Centrifugal juicers are generally the conventional juicers, commercially available in majority of the markets. They are certainly cheaper than the modern cold press juicers and many of the times price is the biggest consideration in buying a product. Moreover, it’s better to have a centrifugal juicer than not having a juicer at all. They are very easy to use and even a person juicing for the first time will be able to use it. It works on the principle of a rotating blade doing all the cutting and juicing. This blade is rotating at very high speed in fact as high as 30,000 revolutions per minute. So this certainly reduces the time required to make juice.
Efficiency is one major advantage of centrifugal juicers over cold press juicers. But again, there are many disadvantages of this type as well. The biggest disadvantage is the compromise over the nutrition value. The blades are spinning and rotating at high speed. This in turn produces excessive heat in the juice just while juicing. This actually causes the oxidation of the pulp and fruit and thus burns the beneficial enzymes and nutrients. Precisely, the shredding and cutting action of the blade shreds the fruit and vegetables immediately exposing them to air. Air has oxygen which in turn oxidizes the nutrients. Know the juicer ratings before purchasing.
Another con is that it is much noisier than its competitor because of a high speed rotating blade. The amount of juice it produces is also less in comparison and a lot of wet pulp is produced. These type of juicers are not suitable for juicing the leafy greens and sprouts. You might need a separate blender for this purpose. These type of juicers are also incapable of making nut milk, ice cream, pasta etc. The juice gets too much separated in fact which indirectly causes a lot of foaming. Foaming is highly undesirable and it ruins a fresh juice not only in taste but aesthetically too. All the waste being produced while juicing is actually disposed in an external container, somewhat making it easily cleanable but then again, the pulp attaches itself to the parts inside the juicing machine.
In short, centrifugal juicers are a good kick off for starters and beginners. They are easy to use and cheap and good for a start but if you do not hesitate in spending a few bucks extra, it is recommended to buy a cold press juicer instead. Centrifugal juicer had been common for decades but times have changed and it should be accepted that a better juicer has been introduced. But a centrifugal juicer is better than no juicer.
